You should now have access to our CMS. You can log in at thespeaker.co/login
Your username and password will have been mailed to you when your account was created. Check your junk folder.
Once you log in, you can customize your bio / profile / social media links, and you can compose articles on the WordPress CMS.
This is how it works: contributors log in, compose an article (“New Post”) and when the article is completely ready for publication, they “Submit for Review” and email us to let us know the article is ready.
Writing news is something anyone can do. People new to news writing do not need to learn everything. Prioritize, learn the basics you need to do your job competently, and you should only have to spend around 30 minutes. However, these basics are necessary. No article should be submitted without these things.
Here are the most important things new writers should know:
Basic AP style — Review this short list of the most common style errors as soon as possible
Sources — Understand what an article needs to be acceptable in terms of credibility
Images — How to get images and how to use them in articles
These are also important, but you can publish news without knowing them (this section is under construction — in the meantime, you can get this information from our old How To Write A News Piece and related links)
Resources — Here are some resources available to everyone who is a part of The Speaker
Social media — How to best use social media
